==History==
The '''Tikonov Lancers''' were originally formed as mechanized infantry formations for the Tikonov Grand Union. When the Grand Union merged with other political groups to form the [[Capellan Confederation]], the Lancers were organized as the Tikonov Commonality's defense unit. The Lancers drew upon nearly five centuries of tradition and history, which gave them a sense of pride. This rigid adherence to tradition had caused some tactical problems for them however.<ref name=FR:2765CCp15/>

By the time the [[First Succession War]] began the Tikonov Lancers had expanded to a total strength of thirteen regiments, with the founding of the [[9th Tikonov Lancers|Ninth]] through [[Thirteenth Tikonov Lancers]].<ref name="FSWp136"/> Three of the regiments - the Ninth, [[10th Tikonov Lancers|Tenth]] and [[Eleventh Tikonov Lancers]] - were founded from former [[Star League Defense Force]] commands recruited by the [[Capellan Confederation Armed Forces]].
