BattleTechWiki:2013 Founder's Awards

2013 Founder's Awards[edit]

It's been over 7 great years of Sarna.net's BattleTechWiki, and we continue to see amazing contributions from the community. Our wiki grows by leaps and bounds each year: last year we (again) saw 2,000 new articles created, bringing the article count to 18,000. My guess is we'll reach 20,000 articles by 2015. But article count isn't the entire story. It's the quality of the articles, the amazing writing, and the great people that really makes BTW an amazing resource for BattleTech fans around the world! Ladies and gentlemen, visitors and contributors, admins: Thank you for making Sarna.net's BattleTechWiki such an amazing resource. My hat is off to you all. 2013 Nominations[edit]

Please post your nominations for the various Founder's awards here for discussion. Post not only the Editor's or Admin's name, but also why you feel that person should be the awardee. Nominations will close on the 31st of January, with Nicjansma announcing after he has made his decisions. Negative responses are not solicited, as these are only for nominations.

Five out of the six Founder's Awards are up for nomination; the Founder's Consistent Service Award is completely left up to Nic. The criteria/descriptions of the awards can be found here.

Please post your nominations under the appropriate sub-heading.

Note: Revanche has excused himself as a nominee from the process. There are plenty of noteworthy members of the community deserving recognition.

Founder's Outstanding Member of the Year Award[edit]

from the citation: "awarded...for the previous year's efforts" (overall)
  • Name:
    • Proposer's supporting statement

  • Doneve
    • In the last year, Doneve has racked up more edits than I care to think about - upwards of ten thousand - doing exactly what he's been doing for three or so years now: constantly churning through work to support various projects, doing the kind of meticulous, small detail adding of information or embodying bulk changes that need to be made to the formatting and layout of articles. I don't know how many thousands of planet owner history entries Doneve has altered, how many articles he's adjusted headings and formatting in, how many articles he's prepared templates for, but having worked with him on a few of them, I know just how much time some of them take. Doneve is a tireless, unflagging dynamo who churns through great rafts of changes, but he also does more than that - I doubt there's a new editor on Sarna who hasn't heard from him at one time or another; he's always quick to assist in any way he can, always quick to provide images and information, and to help others find what they're looking for. And, as if all that wasn't enough, he's spent weeks editing profusely on Sarna from a hospital bed... for at least the second time. There's hardcore when it comes to dedication and effort, and then there's Doneve making hardcore look like a shandy-drinking lightweight. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 03:36, 4 January 2014 (PST)
      • Quite definitely seconded. -BobTheZombie (talk) 22:54, 4 January 2014 (PST)
        • Third! ClanWolverine101 (talk) 23:06, 4 January 2014 (PST)
          • Fourthed, for his great amounts of time dedicated to making this wiki presented in quite good quality!--Raven 2C (talk) 10:12, 5 January 2014 (PST)
            • Fifthed. --Mbear(talk) 04:38, 8 January 2014 (PST)
  • BrokenMnemonic
    • I nominated him last year already, and in 2013 he continued his work of substantial contribution. He's not only very prolific, but also provides high-quality content in a rare combination. Frabby (talk) 02:23, 31 January 2014 (PST)
  • I second Frabby's nomination.--Mbear(talk) 04:17, 31 January 2014 (PST)

Founder's Superior Editor of the Year Award[edit]

from the citation: "awarded...for the previous year's efforts" (in editing)
  • Name:
    • Proposer's supporting statement
      • Additional Supporters' statements
  • Mbear
    • I had to think about this one, because there's been a lot of good editing done this year at all sorts of levels of detail. I think Mbear is a great editor here on Sarna; not just because of the quantity of edits that he's made, or the fact that the vast majority of his edits also add new information to Sarna, but also because no other editor does as much as he does to tackle the plethora of update needed tags here on Sarna. It's relatively easy to add an update needed tag to an article, and I think they're being used better now... but while a lot of us add the tags, Mbear's the one leading the fight to clear them off again. And we don't have an award here for masochism, although maybe we should... BrokenMnemonic (talk) 09:57, 8 January 2014 (PST)
  • There are several users who stand out to me for sheer number of bulk edits, doing the largely thankless task of copyediting, cleaning up references, and all those minor bits and pieces that are important to Sarna's quality as a tool. These are, in no particular order: Frabby (talk) 02:23, 31 January 2014 (PST)
  • Doneve
  • Mbear
  • Wrangler
  • Aldous
  • BobTheZombie
  • Neuling
  • Nuclear-Fridge

Founder's Superior Writer of the Year Award[edit]

from the citation: "awarded...for the previous year's efforts" (in writing)
  • Name:
    • Proposer's supporting statement
      • Additional Supporters' statements
  • BrokenMnemonic:
    • As a relative newcomer here, I can't really comment for the entire year (as previously I rarely looked at the Recent Changes page), but over the last four months or so Broken Mnemonic has posted an unprecedented number of very well written and well researched articles on Warships, Jumpships and Droships. Greatly expanding the breadth of information for these vessels on Sarna.Net. BM not only looked at the Sourcebooks but also the novels for the wealth of extra information that they contain, I feel the amount of hard work BM has obviously put into these articles deserves our appreciation. --Dark Jaguar (talk) 12:22, 3 January 2014 (PST)
      • Seconded, its incredibel how much individual ship articles he has written.--Doneve (talk) 12:32, 3 January 2014 (PST)
        • Thirded, not only because of high quantity, but also high quality. -BobTheZombie (talk) 22:54, 4 January 2014 (PST)
  • ClanWolverine101:
    • He's frequently a contender for yet another Good or even Superior Article Award; while his edit count may not be the highest (but make no mistake - he does a lot of editing!), CW tends to meticiously hammer out one particular entry until it is near-perfect. His work is deep more than broad, and frequently of sterling quality deserving of an award. Frabby (talk) 02:23, 31 January 2014 (PST)

Founder's Exceptional Ambassador of the Year Award[edit]

from the citation: "awarded...to the member who worked the hardest to promote Sarna's existence, strengths and capabilities to other BattleTech communities"
  • Name:
    • Proposer's supporting statement
      • Additional Supporters' statements
  • BrokenMnemonic
    • I nominate him for the commendable way in which he queries TPTB over at the BT forum for information relevant for Sarna, and cross-links the threads on his userpage. I've found that list of his to be a valuable resource for myself, and it does promote Sarna as a serious project aiming to provide accurate data - pestering the authors for details if neccessary. Frabby (talk) 02:23, 31 January 2014 (PST)

Founder's Honorable Mention Award[edit]

from the citation: "awarded...to candidates warranting special recognition for the previous year's efforts; awarded to selected nominees of the Outstanding, Superior & Exceptional awards"
  • Name:
    • Proposer's supporting statement
      • Additional Supporters' statements
  • BobTheZombie
    • A relative newcomber, BobTheZombie has made great efforts to improve the grammatical standards of articles and to tag talk pages with the various administrative project tags to make sure that pages can be swept up when those projects do review work. BobTheZombie is an important reminder that it's not just about adding content here - it's about presenting that cotent to a high standard and in a consistent format. BobTheZombie is also perhaps the most active of the new editors who've joined this year in terms of being on here and working almost every day. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 02:40, 3 January 2014 (PST)
      • Seconded.--Mbear(talk) 03:17, 3 January 2014 (PST)
      • Thirted.--Doneve (talk) 22:27, 4 January 2014 (PST)
  • ClanWolverine101
    • Over the last year ClanWolverine101 has rewritten or created three big articles that I can remember and added maybe a thousand update needed tags to units and planets by data-mining new and old sourcebooks and fiction. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 23:56, 3 January 2014 (PST)
  • Dark Jaguar
    • Dark Jaguar has only been a registered member for a few months, but during that time he's done a substantial piece of work across a number of areas related to Clans that have received reltively little attention here, such as the Smoke Jaguars, Fire Mandrills and Burrocks. In particular, Dark Jaguar dug a fair amount of information out of the novels to help fill in holes with the Smoke Jaguars, which I particularly appreciate given how time-consuming that can be. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 02:40, 3 January 2014 (PST)
  • LittleWolf
    • Over the last year LittleWolf has done more on personal equipment and technology than any other editor here, while also producing more than a thousand edits in total across a range of areas including 'Mechs and Clan units. While not the loudest of editors, Littlewolf has consistently beavered away out of the limelight adding new content to Sarna. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:12, 4 January 2014 (PST)
  • Neuling
    • Neuling's produced loads of updated maps for faction pages, as well as doing lots of grunt work to add basic entries for new units, to flag up new ships and add new snippets of information across a swathe of planets and units. Neuling has always been a hard worker, but I've been particularly impressed with the way he continues to plug away while also adapting to new editing guidelines and improving the standards of his work, all while working in a language that isn't his first language. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 02:40, 3 January 2014 (PST)
  • Nuclear-Fridge
    • In addition to a lot of work on improving the grammatical standards of various articles, Nuclear-Fridge has also made efforts to write new character bio articles. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 02:40, 3 January 2014 (PST)
  • Raven 2C
    • He do a lot of spelling and grammatical cleanups, and fix some little things.--Doneve (talk) 17:31, 3 January 2014 (PST)
  • Rebs
    • Over the first half of this year Rebs did a huge amount of work on Clan-related articles, particularly characters of note. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:03, 4 January 2014 (PST)
  • Wrangler
    • Wrangler added a hefty number of units from various newly-released TROs to Sarna this year, in addition to adding a thousand or so new updated tags and generally plugging away solidly with various changes, great and small. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 03:43, 4 January 2014 (PST)
  • Cyc
    • What a shame, we forgot Cyc, our long time ComStar expert.--Doneve (talk) 13:52, 7 January 2014 (PST)
      • Whoops. Seconded. (In my defense, I did remember as many other people as I had fingers, and counting beyond that is hard.) BrokenMnemonic (talk) 14:21, 7 January 2014 (PST)
      • Thirded. -BobTheZombie (talk) 14:50, 7 January 2014 (PST)
        • Fourthed.--Mbear(talk) 04:40, 8 January 2014 (PST)
  • As usual, I maintain that anyone nominated in the other categories is an eligible candidate for a honorable mention. In addition to those mentioned above (in this or any other category), whose nomination I fully support, I'd like to nominate the following (again, in no particular order) for their deep and meaningful involvement with Sarna BTW: Frabby (talk) 02:23, 31 January 2014 (PST)
  • Crduemling
  • DerangedShadow
  • Divergent Reality (particularly valuable to Sarna because he seems to be the only one working on the CCG)
  • Mattiator
