The Almach system was home to at least one habitable world - Almach II - and as of 3151 was located in the Chesterton Commonality of the Capellan Confederation.

System Description[edit]

The Almach system maintained a recharge station at the zenith jump point at least as recently as the early thirty-first century.[1]

System History[edit]

The Almach system was settled during or just after the First Exodus from Terra[2] and the system would be contested by various nations and proto-nations throughout its history, being controlled at various times by the Capellan confederation,[3] Federated Suns,[4] Marlette Association[2] and Tikonov Grand Union.[5]

Almach II - commonly referred to simply as Almach - is the second planet in the Almach system and is known for its extensive ocean farms.[1]

Planetary History[edit]

Age of War[edit]

Almach was originally an independent planet settled almost exclusively by Argentinians.[1] That world became swept up in conflicts between the newly formed Tikonov Grand Union and the Marlette Association in the late twenty-third and early twenty-fourth centuries. Although Almach was claimed by both states at the end of the twenty-third century, the Marlette Association annexed Almach between 2302 and 2306.[2] With the election of General Diana Chinn to the Tikonov Tetrarchy in 2307, the Tikonov Grand Union began an ambitious gamble against the Marlette Association, and a number of Marlette Association worlds were invaded and annexed in short order. Tikonov Grand Union forces commanded by Diana Chinn conquered Almach in November 2308;[5] the planet remained in Tikonov Grand Union control until 2344, when the Federated Suns occupied several Tikonov worlds including Almach. Almach gave its name to the Accord signed between the Federated Suns and the Tikonov Grand Union that recognized Davion control of a number of Chesterton Trade Worlds.[6] The Federated Suns President, Reynard Davion, made Almach a trustee of the Federated Suns after annexing the world, with every intention of turning Almach into a major military staging area in anticipation of future wars in the area.[44]

Star League[edit]

At some time prior to 2571, Almach was taken over by the Capellan Confederation.[3]

Under Capellan rule the three continents on the planet were given over to national parks and wildlife preserves administered by the government. Though it has one of the largest deserts in the region, the real item of interest is Almach's extensive ocean-farming installations. Prior to the Succession Wars the products of Almach's seas fed every world in the Chesterton Commonality.[1]

First Succession War[edit]

Almach was not the target of any full scale invasion during the First Succession War, but its location near the Federated Suns border plus its valuable aquaculture resources probably made it a target of raids.

Second Succession War[edit]

The Federated Suns took control of Almach via Operation SUN in 2830 during the opening conflicts of the Second Succession War.[45]

Third Succession War[edit]

In 3005, elements of the Blackwind Lancers and Marion's Highlanders, based on Halloran, raided Almach. This attack, as well as others, would trigger the Federated Suns to attack the Lancers and Highlanders base of operations on Halloran with Wolf's Dragoons.[46]

Fourth Succession War[edit]

Almach contributed several regiments of infantry from its own garrison to assist in the conquest of New Canton during Operation RAT.[47]

Clan Invasion[edit]

Almach's position within the Inner Sphere kept it out of the fighting during the Clan Invasion.

FedCom Civil War[edit]

Almach was spared from the major fighting of the FedCom Civil War.

Dark Age[edit]

During Operation CELESTIAL REWARD the First Federated Suns Armored Cavalry managed to repel the first Capellan attack on Almach, but when the Red Lancers joined the invasion force the FedSuns unit was driven from the world.[48][49]

Almach is a lush world covered by oceans although it also has on its surface one of the largest known deserts in the local region.[1]
