The Aix-la-Chapelle system was the location of at least one inhabited world, Aix-la-Chapelle IV,[2] and as of 3145 was located in the Benjamin Prefecture of the Benjamin Military District within the Draconis Combine.[3][4]

System Description[edit]

Aix-la-Chapelle is located near the Otho and Sendai systems. By the thirty-first century, the Aix-la-Chapelle system had recharge stations at both permanent jump points.[2]

System History[edit]

Aix-la-Chapelle was settled during the First Exodus from Terra.[5]

Aix-la-Chapelle IV is the fourth planet in the Aix-la-Chapelle system; the planet has three moons, named Burtsheid, Julich and Wester, and was home to a manufacturing plant owned by Diplan 'Mechyards.[2]

Planetary History[edit]

Aix-la-Chapelle IV, more commonly known simply Aix-la-Chapelle, was colonized despite being inhospitable to human life, due to its huge mineral reserves. Within a century of human settlement the planet had been extensively mined and industrialized; by 2600 it was completely self-sufficient in manufacturing. Attempts to raise local livestock, on the other hand, all failed due to the harsh environment and the planet has always needed to import nonagricultural foodstuffs.[1]

Aix-la-Chapelle was a Terran Alliance colony at the time of the Outer Reaches Rebellion of 2236, during which it was subject to harsh repression and struggled to rebuild after being granted independence. By 2250 the planet was still badly off, enough that native business leader Samantha Calderon, who had thrown her money and energy into the reconstruction effort, finally decided to leave Aix-la-Chapelle and went on to found a future Periphery power far from the Inner Sphere.[5]

Aix-la-Chapelle was later incorporated into the expanding Draconis Combine at some point between 2319 and 2571.

Military Deployment[edit]

3085[edit]

- The unit was at 35% strength, with 80% of their equipment featuring upgraded technology.

Geography[edit]

Aix-la-Chapelle has a single landmass named Aachen that dominates the northern hemisphere. With frequent volcanic eruptions underground, and harsh windstorms and tornadoes constantly scouring the surface, Aachen's terrain can be best described as "hellish." Nearly all of the planet's cities and settlements are domed and situated in close proximity to magma pockets. Those habitats built outside the domes resemble fortresses.[2][45]

Planetary Locations[edit]

  • Belnet: city and location of the Diplan 'Mechyards[2]
  • The original Kensai Kami school, situated in the wilderness.[45]
  • Old Lyons: city wiped out by an underwater tsunami in 3063[45]
  • Rheinphalia: the capital city of Aix-la-Chapelle[2]

Industrial Centers[edit]

Local Flora and Fauna[edit]

The planet was home to the Ousi-Uma species.[46]
